We’re all feeling more settled in the new house, I think, and Kai loves his new room. He decided he wanted to sleep in there, but was getting cold on the blow up matress, so we decided it was time to get him a bed…
So yesterday we went to a big furniture outlet, and got a bed and matress, then went and got him covers. He did want Batman, but we couldn’t find any, so we ended up with Ninja Turtles, which he’s pretty happy with!
We’ve also been trying to find things to hang on the many nails in the walls. I’ve never seen so many nails – even the Tassie house didn’t have this many!
So, i picked up a wooden frame in the Op Shop (and a Spiderman clock – all for $3!), and Kai decorated it and I put in a picture he drew a while ago that was getting trashed on the fridge…
A few weeks ago, I saw a blog post about marble painting, and thought that might be a boy-friendly craft we’d like in this house…So, we picked up some marbles and a cheap canvas, and gave it a go….
It was an unqualified success, and Kai loved doing it…and…drum roll please….here’s the final canvas…
The only downside was that the whole thing only took us about 5 minutes! Oh well, it filled up another nail and some wall space!
But, many more nails to go….so, i used a rectangle of fly-wire i found (NO idea where it came from!) and a stick from outside, and I made myself an earring display hanging…
Inspired by my success, and fed up of my necklaces all being jumbled and tangled in a bag, and my never wearing them, i went on a walk and found a cool bushy twig, and made a necklace tree…
Currently it’s sitting on a window ledge, but will eventually get moved to shelves, when we finally get some!
So, after all of our recycling and crafts, we settled down to turn of the lights for Earth Hour last night…we lit a couple of candles, and used up some old birthday candles…
After some candlelight dancing, and some spotlighting outside, Kai decided he wanted to play his new Leapster game (Cars – a letters/phonics one)…so went in his room…i guess it’s cheating a bit since it ran on battery, but at least all the lights and chargers stayed off!
So, for a not-very-crafty household, we’ve been quite crafty this past few days. Still some nails to cover, but we’re getting there! And despite my claims that we wouldn’t have little people on our Nature Table, I so love everyone elses, and saw some beautiful one’s at the Markets today, i’m going to have a go at making one for our Eostre (Easter) table…It’s likely to be crap – but then i’ll just tell ya Kai did it! ha ha!!
Hmmm….now where could you buy some more earrings??? ;) LOL
My step-father makes earring holders like that using flywire & a full timber frame :) I love the necklace tree, too!
That pic looks very cool, as well :D
Crafty mama has a load of jewellery! Marble art looks like a fun idea- the finished result looks great.
I think Kai’s marble painting turned out beautifully. He must get his creativity from you as all your little projects are terrific too.
Donna :) :)
@Ny – ha ha! Yes, i was thinking of you specifically when i wrote that!! Once we get past the moving debt, for sure! Yeah, i’d seen the full frame fly wire one’s before – at a market in Townsville, but i was too lazy to do that! Might eventually put a piece of wood on the bottom – although if i get enough new earrings, it’ll weigh it down fine!
@Michelle – I reckon your boys would love marble painting – especially O – it’s very physical, rolling the marbles around! In the end, we just put all 6 in and rolled them around together!
@ Sherry and Donna – love your blog so much – Kai doesn’t much like traditional crafty stuff – painting, glueing, colouring, etc, but you’ve given me heaps of ideas for more boy-friendly stuff i know he’ll like!
Hi! Thanks for your comment on my blog!
I love your earring wall hanging and your necklace tree. Very cool!
