Well, as the title suggests, it’s been one of those weeks, and this will be a very short post, no pretty pictures today. The car debacle continued throughout the week, we eventually got Ambers car fixed, but ours is sitting on the lawn rather forlornly..Brett borrowed another friends car to go away, and apparently that has a red warning light on it today…unbelievable!
Kai got a splinter under his thumb nail during out camping trip, which proceeded to get horribly infected two days ago..the pharmacist, rather predictably, told me it needed antibiotics and to go to the doctor. I said i’d try it with magnoplasm and betadine for the night and see how we go. So, the magnoplasm did it’s thing and the splinter came out last night, and the infection looked a lot less this morning, so we decided to give the doctor a miss for now…but it’s still a possibility if it doesn’t clear up..
This morning we went to beach, based on good weather and the need to soak an infected thumb in magical sea water. Before we left, we made the discovery that at least two of our tadpoles have four legs..which is very exciting…when i feel more up to it, i promise a photo!
Also this morning, i found out my Dad has to have bypass surgery. After an angiogram yesterday, they discovered numerous blocked arteries and won’t let him go home – so he has to stay in hospital until they find him a bed in the heart ward…which in the UK, could be a while..
So…yes…it hasn’t been a great week. When things like this happen, i feel a long way from home…even at a push it would take me 24 hours to get there…making me practically useless..
Tonight Kai asked what was wrong with Pappy Len, and so I drew a rather poor picture of a heart with blocked arteries, before i realised that there were probably lots of good pictures on the web of unblocked/blocked arteries, so we did that also….I think he grasped the basic concepts, and we talked about why it happens, and what we could do to stop it happening to us (frankly, not much with our genetics!). I also found a good site which showed how bypass surgery works, so we looked at that too..
So, despite everything, there have been lots of opportunities for learning this week, particularly with a medical bent – infection and immune responses (= Pus thumb!) and heart disease, arteries blocked with plaque, bypass surgery and a heart healthy diet with exercise…
And…it helps me to explain it to Kai, and it helps Kai understand what’s going on and why i’m upset..
But, that said, i hope next week is brighter..
Hi Jo,
Kai might be all better by now, but hey, get yourself some activated charcole and make a poultice (charcole, water to make a paste) and put that on the site and leave for a couple of hours. Depending on infection might have to change a couple of times. This stuff is amazing and I have used it on many infections – simon(husband) got a pitch fork with mulch on it almost right though his foot and we just used this twice a day for about a week and no infection and it helps draw all the stuff out of the site. This stuff is damn messy so make sure you cover it up properly and try not to get any on clothes -stains real bad. You can check out charcoalremedies.com
hope this helps Leah
